WASHINGTON – U.S. Senator Ben Cardin (D-Md.) released the following statement following Senate confirmation Monday night of Marylander Brad Garcia for a seat on the U.S. Court of Appeals for the D.C. Circuit.
“I am pleased that the Senate voted to confirm Brad Garcia as a United States Circuit Judge for the District of Columbia Circuit. The D.C. Circuit is often called the nation’s second highest court in the nation, given the many federal agencies it oversees that are based in Washington, D.C. Mr. Garcia is a Marylander who attended college at Johns Hopkins University in Baltimore, and will be in the first Latino to sit on the D.C. Circuit in this distinguished court’s history. He will bring exceptional litigation and appellate experience to the bench, having argued dozens of cases before federal and state appellate courts, including several U.S. Circuit Courts and the U.S. Supreme Court. I am confident that Mr. Garcia will faithfully carry out his judicial oath to do equal right to the poor and to the rich, as he upholds the rule of law and endeavors to provide equal justice under the law to all Americans.”
BRADLEY N. GARCIA
Bradley N. Garcia is a Deputy Assistant Attorney General in the Department of Justice’s Office of Legal Counsel, a role he has held since 2022. Prior to joining the Department of Justice, Mr. Garcia was a partner in the Supreme Court and Appellate Practice Group at O’Melveny and Myers LLP, where he worked from 2013 to 2022. As an appellate litigator, Mr. Garcia represented clients in over 50 cases before federal and state appellate courts. He has argued 13 cases before federal and state appellate courts, including the U.S. Supreme Court and the U.S. Courts of Appeals for the First, Third, Fourth, Ninth, Eleventh and Federal Circuits. He served as a law clerk for Justice Elena Kagan on the United States Supreme Court from 2012 to 2013 and for Judge Thomas Griffith on the United States Court of Appeals for the District of Columbia Circuit from 2011 to 2012. Mr. Garcia received his J.D., magna cum laude, from Harvard Law School in 2011 and his B.A. from Johns Hopkins University in 2008.
