The City of College Park announced on April 8 that its annual Cleanup Saturdays will take place on April 11, 18, 25, and May 16 at the Public Works facility located at 9217 51st Avenue. The events will run from 7:30 a.m. to noon, with a special document shredding service available only on Saturday, May 16 from 8:00 a.m. to noon.

Cleanup Saturdays provide an opportunity for city residents to dispose of bulky trash, white goods, electronics recycling, brush, and yard trim without counting toward bulk trash limits or incurring fees for appliances, televisions or monitors. There is a $4 fee per tire disposed during the event.

Residents are required to show proof of residency in College Park to participate in the drop-off services. However, compost and wood mulch can be purchased by anyone attending the event. Items not accepted include bricks, concrete, rocks, hazardous materials such as shingles or propane tanks, car batteries, paint cans or smoke detectors.

During these cleanup events small quantities of fluorescent light bulbs (including LED lamps and various types of fluorescent tubes), household batteries (that are intact), and block Styrofoam used for packing material will also be collected for recycling. Batteries must not be leaking or damaged; power equipment and automotive batteries are not accepted.

The document shredding service offered on May 16 allows residents to securely dispose of confidential papers such as old tax records or medical paperwork while they wait onsite. All shredded paper will be recycled.

The initiative aims to help residents manage waste responsibly while providing secure options for disposing sensitive documents.
