The City of College Park announced on Apr. 23 that Friday, April 24, 2026, will be recognized as Arbor Day in the city. The proclamation was made by Mayor Fazlul Kabir and the City Council to highlight the environmental, economic, and community benefits that trees provide.

Arbor Day is an annual event dedicated to encouraging individuals and communities to plant and care for trees. The city’s announcement notes that College Park has been recognized as a Tree City USA by the National Arbor Day Foundation for over thirty years.

According to the proclamation text, trees play a vital role in reducing erosion, improving air quality, moderating temperatures, conserving energy, and supporting wildlife. Trees are also said to enhance property values and strengthen local business areas while contributing to residents’ overall well-being.

The proclamation encourages all residents of College Park to support tree planting efforts not only for their own benefit but also for future generations. It further states: “BE IT FURTHER PROCLAIMED that residents are encouraged to support the care and planting of trees for the benefit of present and future generations.”

The city’s long-standing commitment to urban forestry is underscored by its more than three decades as a Tree City USA community. Observers say this continued focus on tree planting helps sustain environmental health within College Park.
