Coppin State University’s softball team lost both games of a doubleheader against Howard University on April 18 at Nationals Youth Academy in Washington, D.C. The Eagles were defeated 8-0 in the first game and 10-0 in the second game by the league-leading Bison.
These losses bring Coppin State’s record to 8-21 overall and 7-10 within the Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference (MEAC), while Howard improves to 23-14 overall and maintains a strong conference record of 16-1.
In the opening game, Howard scored during every inning. Julianna Mejia reached base with a walk and Leslie Sereno got on due to an error. Coppin State pitchers Debra Hyde and Tatjana Harris each allowed four runs over two innings, surrendering a total of eleven hits and six walks.
During the second matchup, Brooklyn Tapusoa managed one hit and drew a walk for Coppin State. Cameran Corbett hit a triple while Brooklyn Lee-Scott contributed with a double. Harris pitched all innings for Coppin but gave up ten runs on nine hits. After allowing two runs in the first inning, Harris retired three straight batters in the second before Howard added another run in the third inning and then scored seven more times during an explosive fourth inning.
The series between Coppin State and Howard is scheduled to conclude at Nationals Youth Academy at 1 p.m. on Sunday, April 19.
