Coppin State University’s women’s tennis team lost to Norfolk State University, 4-0, in the Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference (MEAC) Quarterfinals on April 23 at Cary Tennis Park. The Eagles ended their season without a win, finishing with an overall record of 0-14, while the Spartans improved to 15-9.
The match saw Brandy Babcock-Hannah and Saphirre Ferguson secure a victory in the top doubles flight for Coppin State. The pair defeated Norfolk State’s top duo with a score of 6-1 and were the first match to finish. However, Norfolk State clinched the doubles point by winning at No. 2 doubles against Abigail Perue and Kyla Proctor (6-1), as well as defeating Alison Azarak and Sirena Singh at No. 3 doubles (6-2).
In singles play, Babcock-Hannah won her first set at No. 2 singles (6-3) and was tied at two games apiece in the second set when play was halted after Norfolk State secured victories in three other singles positions to clinch the overall match. At No. 1 singles, Singh won two games in each set but ultimately fell short against her opponent from NSU.
Ferguson dropped her first set at No. 4 singles (6-1) but was tied at four games all in the second set when play concluded due to Norfolk State having already secured enough points for victory.
With this result, Coppin State concludes its season while Norfolk State advances further into postseason competition.
