The Garrett County Department of Public Works – Roads Division announced on Apr. 27 that Corona Bayard Road will be closed to through traffic on Tuesday, May 5, for a culvert replacement project. The closure is expected to last approximately eight hours and will allow crews to replace the culvert pipe crossing a tributary of the North Branch Potomac.
This roadwork may affect travel plans for residents and motorists who use Corona Bayard Road in Garrett County, Maryland. The department advises drivers to use alternate routes during the closure period and to allow extra travel time.
During the work, no through traffic will be permitted on Corona Bayard Road. However, local residents will still have access to their properties at all times. Emergency response vehicles are set to use Wilson Corona Road as their designated detour route while the work is underway. Area fire and EMS departments have been notified about these changes.
Alternate routes include traveling southwest on Wilson Corona Road toward McMillan Road, continuing south onto Front Street into Bayard, then turning east or northeast onto Althouse Hill Road before reconnecting with Corona-Bayard Road past the construction zone. Drivers of oversized or heavy vehicles are encouraged to contact the Roads Division ahead of time regarding route suitability.
