The District Court of Maryland in Baltimore City hosted a program for local high school students on Apr. 17 to educate them about the legal consequences of criminal offenses and provide guidance for making positive life choices.

The initiative aims to help young people understand how their decisions can impact their futures, both legally and personally. By exposing students to real-life scenarios and offering direct interaction with legal professionals, the program seeks to foster informed decision-making among youth.

During the event, students participated in a mock traffic stop designed to demonstrate the immediate legal implications that can result from poor decisions. The interactive session also gave attendees an opportunity to meet police officers, K-9 officers, commissioners, assistant public defenders, assistant state’s attorneys, bailiffs, clerks, and judges. Legal professionals discussed career opportunities within the justice system and shared information about relevant educational paths.

The program included presentations on substance abuse prevention and crisis intervention services. Guest speakers spoke candidly about how negative choices had impacted their lives, emphasizing the importance of considering long-term consequences when making decisions.

Organizers said they hope these experiences will encourage participants to think critically about their actions and envision brighter futures for themselves.
