The Maryland Eastern Shore Hawks defeated the Coppin State Eagles, 5-4, in a ten-inning game on March 21 at Joe Cannon Stadium in Hanover, Maryland. The win was highlighted by Gonzalez Perez’s four hits and Clausell’s seven strikeouts in relief.

This close contest marked the Hawks’ first series win of the 2026 season and their third consecutive conference victory. The result is significant for Maryland Eastern Shore as it improves their record to 4-15 overall and 3-5 in conference play, while Coppin State falls to 2-15 overall and 2-6 in conference games.

Coppin State took an early lead with two runs in the second inning. Maryland Eastern Shore responded in the fourth with an RBI single and an RBI fielder’s choice to tie the score. In the fifth inning, Gonzalez Perez hit an RBI double down the right field line to give the Hawks their first lead. After Coppin State tied it again, Perez delivered another go-ahead run with an RBI single through the right side.

The Eagles managed to even the score once more on a fielding error in the eighth inning. However, Maryland Eastern Shore regained control when they scored on another error by Coppin State in the ninth. Clausell then secured his first pitching win of the season by striking out all three batters he faced in his final inning of work.

Both teams finished with seven hits each, but errors played a role throughout—Maryland Eastern Shore committed three errors while Coppin State had four. Gonzalez Perez led all hitters with four hits and two runs batted in during this matchup.
