Gonzalez Perez has been named to the Buster Posey Award Midseason Watch List by the Wichita Sports Commission on April 1.

The Buster Posey Award is given each year to the top collegiate catcher in NCAA Division I baseball. At midseason, the Wichita Sports Commission adds the top 50 catchers in the country to its watch list. This year, Perez was one of three catchers from historically Black colleges and universities (HBCUs) selected for this recognition.

At this point in the 2026 University of Maryland Eastern Shore (UMES) baseball season, Perez leads his team in several categories, including batting average (.337), home runs (five), hits (29), runs batted in (25), total bases (49), slugging percentage (.570), sacrifice flies (five), doubles (five), and games started (24). The senior catcher from Syracuse, New York, also ranks among the top ten players in the Northeast Conference for home runs, RBI, hits, and sacrifice flies.

In addition to his achievements on the field, Perez has volunteered at community events with Greenwood Elementary School, Deal Island Elementary School, We Build You Play, and the Alzheimer’s Association. He has also been selected for the 2025 HBCU Swingman Classic and is a three-time NEC Prime Performer for 2026.

Perez and his team will begin their second half of the season with a three-game series against Fairleigh Dickinson University starting Thursday, April 2.
