Rep. Glenn Ivey, currently serving in the U.S. Congress representing Maryland’s 4th district, has shared several updates via social media on June 18, 2025, focusing on budget cuts affecting community programs and efforts to combat gun violence.

In a post from June 18, Rep. Ivey announced his upcoming participation in an Instagram Live session with @CJACTIONFUND scheduled for Monday, June 23 at 11 AM EST. He intends to discuss “the impacts that the FY26′ budget cuts have on community violence intervention programs and support for our victims.” The discussion is part of Gun Violence Prevention Month activities.

Later that day, Rep. Ivey reminded his followers about the upcoming 2nd Annual Gun Violence Summit set for Saturday, June 28. In this event, he aims to bring together national and local leaders focused on saving lives and supporting survivors of gun violence. He encouraged people to RSVP through a provided link as he highlighted the importance of these initiatives with hashtags like #EndGunViolence and #WearOrange (source).

In another tweet from June 18, Rep. Ivey expressed concerns over potential reductions in resources for the crisis hotline known as “988,” which serves individuals in distress, including LGBTQ+ youth. He warned that starting July 17, cuts initiated by Trump could result in up to “30% of crisis calls going unanswered.” This message underscores the critical nature of maintaining funding for such services.

Glenn Ivey has served in Congress since replacing Anthony Brown in 2023. Prior to this role, he was a member of the Maryland House of Representatives. Born in Chelsea, Massachusetts in 1961 and currently residing in Cheverly, Ivey graduated from Princeton University with a BA before earning a JD from Harvard Law School.
