Harford County will host “Ag-Stravaganza,” a free event celebrating local agriculture, Earth Day, and America’s 250th birthday on April 25. The event will take place from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. at the Harford County Agricultural Center complex in Street, rain or shine.
The celebration aims to bring together community members of all ages to learn about agriculture, sustainable farming, and conservation while recognizing important milestones such as Earth Day and the nation’s upcoming semiquincentennial.
Visitors can expect a variety of activities including meeting farm animals, historic demonstrations, Colonial crafts making, and educational exhibits focused on environmental stewardship. A noontime patriotic observance and tree planting are also planned. Special guests include Mack the dog and apiary inspector Cybil Preston from “The Dog Who Saved the Bees,” which was presented during Ag Literacy Week to elementary students across the county.
County Executive Bob Cassilly said, “All are welcome to this family-friendly celebration of Harford County agriculture and America’s 250th birthday, with learning opportunities and fun for all ages.” Cassilly also thanked agricultural community partners for helping organize the event.
Representatives from organizations such as 4-H, Eden Mill Nature Center, Harford Bird Club, Susquehanna Beekeepers, Master Gardeners, Harford County Farm Bureau, and Harford Soil Conservation District will be present. Food trucks and music will be available throughout the day. The historic Joesting-Gorsuch House will be open for tours while hands-on Colonial activities will be offered by the Darlington branch of the public library in partnership with the historical society.
In honor of Earth Day, Poplar Grove Barn and Pavilion will offer free educational resources on protecting natural resources for future generations. The Agricultural Center itself will feature additional exhibits including a marketplace operated by local youth through 4-H programs.
