Harford County hosted its biennial EMPOWERED Expo on April 11 at Bel Air High School, bringing together more than 150 teens and young adults with differing abilities and their families to connect them with resources as they plan for adulthood.
The event is designed to help individuals who have Individualized Education Programs (IEPs) or 504 Plans access essential tools, services, and guidance in one location. This initiative aims to support these young people in achieving greater independence and long-term success.
“Harford County is committed to ensuring every resident has the opportunity to thrive and reach their full potential,” County Executive Bob Cassilly said. “Events like the EMPOWERED Expo connect families with essential tools, resources, and guidance, all in one place, to help young adults take meaningful steps toward independence and long-term success.”
More than 45 local exhibitors participated in the expo, offering a wide range of services. Workshops covered topics such as executive functioning skills, ABLE accounts, guardianship options, employment opportunities, eligibility for Developmental Disability Administration programs, and Supplemental Services Insurance.
