Harford County will host a free workshop for small business owners titled “Hiring Your First Employee: From Preparation to Onboarding” on May 14 at the CONVERGE Center in Aberdeen, according to an April 29 announcement.

The event aims to help local entrepreneurs understand the process of hiring their first employee. The workshop is intended to provide practical tools and guidance about legal requirements and onboarding procedures for new hires.

County Executive Bob Cassilly said, “This free workshop is designed to help small business owners make the big leap of hiring their first employee to help grow their business. Participants will gain the practical tools they need to navigate the hiring process, meet legal requirements, and set their new team member up for success.”

Topics covered in the session include assessing readiness to hire, defining job roles, understanding legal obligations such as payroll and classification, and learning onboarding basics. The event is presented in partnership with the Harford County Chamber of Commerce’s Harford Young Professionals & Entrepreneurs (HYPE) Group as part of the LevelUp Harford Business Workshop Series from the Department of Economic Development.

Attendance at this workshop is free but requires registration at bit.ly/LevelUpFirstEmployee. Those unable to attend can access recorded seminars online at www.harfordcountymd.gov/3960/LevelUp-Harford-Business-Workshop-Series. The LevelUp series is filmed and produced by HarfordTV.
