Holy Cross defeated Loyola University Maryland in women’s lacrosse on Apr. 18, with a final score of 14-9 after building an early lead in the first quarter.
The result is significant as it impacts Loyola’s momentum heading into the end of their regular season and highlights the importance of a strong start in competitive matchups.
Morgan Quade led the Greyhounds with two goals, while six other players contributed to the scoring. Emma Talago, Elisa Faklaris, and Mim Suares-Jury each recorded both a goal and an assist. After trailing 6-2 at the end of the first quarter, Loyola attempted to close the gap throughout the game. The team narrowed Holy Cross’s lead to four goals during several points in the second half but was unable to overcome their early deficit.
Mae Murphy made a notable impact by controlling 12 draws and adding two caused turnovers along with two ground balls. In goal, Kennedy Buntrock and Makenzie Butler split time for Loyola, combining for six saves over four quarters.
Loyola will conclude its regular season at home against Bucknell on Thursday at 6:00 PM.
