Steny Hoyer, currently serving as a U.S. Congressman representing Maryland’s 5th district, has been vocal about significant issues regarding domestic policies and commemorative events through his recent social media posts.

On April 27, 2025, Hoyer expressed concerns over the proposed budget cuts to food assistance and Medicaid by House Republicans. He urged the public to “listen to Leader @RepJeffries and @SenBooker as they discuss how we can work together to uphold American values and fight against this extremism”. Hoyer’s comments reflect his ongoing advocacy for social welfare programs.

The following day, April 28, Hoyer highlighted the significance of #WorkersMemorialDay, remembering those who lost their lives due to workplace-related incidents. He tweeted his thoughts being with the families affected by the Key Bridge collapse last year, emphasizing the need to continue the pursuit of improved workplace safety standards.

On April 29, Hoyer paid tribute to his colleague Rep. Gerry Connolly from Virginia’s 11th district. He acknowledged Connolly’s dedication, stating that serving alongside him has been a privilege. Hoyer noted Connolly’s determination in battling both for his constituents and through his personal health challenges, recognizing the impact of his impending departure from Congress at the end of 119th as a significant loss.

Steny Hoyer, now 83, was born in New York City but currently resides in Mechanicsville. He has made a notable career spanning decades in the U.S. Congress, after replacing Gladys Spellman in 1981. His political journey includes work in Maryland’s government, with a firm educational grounding from University of Maryland and Georgetown University.
