A 17-year-old juvenile was arrested and charged as an adult following a shooting incident at Myrtle Point Park in California, Maryland, according to an April 2 news release from the St. Mary’s County Sheriff’s Office.

The arrest followed reports of shots fired on the evening of April 1. Deputies responded to the park around 6:53 p.m., where they detained several individuals and discovered that one juvenile was carrying a Glock 23 .40-caliber handgun. The individual was taken into custody without incident.

The juvenile faces charges including carrying a handgun upon their person, carrying a loaded handgun on their person, possession of a firearm by a minor, and reckless endangerment. Due to legal protections for minors, the name of the individual has not been released.

Detectives from the Criminal Investigations Division have taken over the case, with Detective Warren Forinash serving as lead investigator. The sheriff’s office is encouraging anyone with information about this incident to contact Detective Forinash by phone or email or to submit tips anonymously through text message, online forms on their website, or via their app. Tipsters may be eligible for cash rewards if their information leads to an arrest.
