Loyola University Maryland’s women’s tennis team ended its season on April 17 with a 4-0 loss to Lehigh University in the quarterfinal round of the Patriot League Championships at Bucknell University.
The match saw Lehigh secure the doubles point by winning at the top two positions. Lena Dogadalski and Hannah Letzer defeated Christine Richiez and Emma Roeck, 6-1, at No. 1 doubles, while Maggie Forkner and Alina Shyani also earned a 6-1 victory over Emi Shivkumar and Elena Hartley at No. 2. The third doubles match was stopped with Lehigh’s Skye Yonehara and Audrey Harrington leading Liza Tankimovich and Mia Matriccino, 4-2.
In singles play, Lehigh clinched the overall win by taking straight-set victories in the lower half of the lineup. Alina Shyani beat Victoria Epps, 6-2, 6-2, at No. 4 singles; Skye Yonehara followed with a win over Emma Roeck, 6-3, 6-3, at No. 5; while Giselle Vlassis secured a three-set victory against Mia Matriccino (7-5, 2-6, 6-0) at No.3.
Three singles matches were left unfinished after Lehigh clinched the match decision: At No.1 singles Maggie Forkner led Christine Richiez (4-6, 6-4, 2-4), Dogadalski was ahead of Hartley (7-6(0), 2-6,1–2) at No.2 singles; Alice Ann Pantsari led Tankimovich (6–7(6),4–2) at No.6 when play was halted.
With this result Loyola concludes its run in this year’s Patriot League tournament.
