Loyola University Maryland’s rowing teams won all five of their races at the Gifford Pinchot Regatta on April 25 in Lewisberry, Pennsylvania.
The event saw both the men’s and women’s pairs finish first in their respective races, each winning by a margin of one second. The men’s pair finished with a time of 7:50, narrowly defeating Carnegie Mellon. The women’s pair completed their race in 9:19, also edging out the Tartans by a single second.
In other events, Loyola’s women’s Varsity 4+ secured first place with a time of 7:32, finishing fifty seconds ahead of Binghamton. The women’s second Varsity 4+ also took first place with a time of 7:46. On the men’s side, the Varsity 4+ boat claimed victory in its race with a time of 7:19, finishing six seconds ahead of Binghamton.
The rowers for Loyola included Josephine Lightner and Mikayla Smith in the women’s pair; Connor Williams and Troy Guillen in the men’s pair; Bella Schafer (coxswain), Mary Cate Burger, Bella Taranto, Beata Turnquist, and Molly Gum in the women’s Varsity 4+; Evan Ellsworth (coxswain), Bella Guarnaccia, Emily Luttman, Marley Vallino, and Victoria Kolawa in the women’s second Varsity 4+; and Ariel Ellis (coxswain), Sean Mullaly, Liam Van Es, Jeremiah James, and Jake Cordes in the men’s Varsity 4+.
These results highlight strong performances across Loyola’s rowing program during this regatta.
