Loyola University Maryland defeated Bucknell University 15-9 in a Patriot League women’s lacrosse game on April 23, with Mae Murphy breaking the school’s single-season draw control record. Murphy recorded 14 draw controls during the match, surpassing Chase Boyle’s previous record of 210 set in 2025. She now has a total of 215 draw controls this season.
The game was closely contested in the first half, with Loyola leading just 5-4 at halftime. However, the Greyhounds scored six unanswered goals in the third quarter and held Bucknell without a shot during that period. This run allowed Loyola to outscore Bucknell 10-5 after halftime and secure their eleventh win of the season.
Elisa Faklaris led Loyola’s offense with four goals, while Emma Talago and Delaney Jackson each contributed three goals. Mim Suares-Jury added two goals and an assist, and Morgan Quade had one goal along with a career-high six assists for seven points overall.
After Regan Sansiviero gave Bucknell a brief lead midway through the second quarter, Ava Kane tied it up for Loyola before Talago put them ahead for good. The decisive third-quarter surge included man-up and free-position goals from Faklaris and Quade as well as quick scores from Jackson.
Loyola controlled possession throughout much of the game by winning 21 draw controls compared to Bucknell’s five. The Greyhounds also outshot their opponents by a margin of 31-17 and successfully cleared on eighteen out of nineteen attempts. Makenzie Butler made six saves for Loyola.
With this victory, Loyola secured the third seed in the upcoming Patriot League Championship tournament and will host sixth-seeded Boston on Sunday.
