Construction began in June on Maryland’s first electric vehicle chargers funded by the National Electric Vehicle Infrastructure (NEVI) program. NEVI is a federal initiative aimed at creating a publicly accessible and reliable EV charging network, connecting Maryland with the rest of the country. The initial set of chargers is being installed by Pilot Travel Centers at their location in Grantsville, near I-68. This project is part of Maryland’s first phase of NEVI-funded chargers, which will include 130 new Direct Current Fast Charging ports across 22 stations. The construction for the remaining chargers is expected to start in the coming months, with all 22 stations projected to be operational by April 2026.
