Applications are now being accepted for the Maryland Certified Public Manager (CPM) Program, a leadership development initiative for public sector professionals, according to an April 21 announcement.

The program aims to strengthen the skills of supervisors, managers, and executives working in state, local, and municipal government as well as nonprofit organizations. The deadline to apply for the Class of 2027 is June 1, 2026.

Offered by the Schaefer Center for Public Policy at the University of Baltimore, the CPM program provides a total of 300 hours of competency-based training focused on real-world leadership challenges faced by public sector employees. Participants will complete a capstone project relevant to their agency and develop management and operational skills while joining a network of public service professionals both within Maryland and across the country.

The training is fully funded for those selected and will be delivered entirely online through a mix of live instruction and self-paced coursework. Organizers say that programs like CPM can help counties build stronger internal capacity and improve operational effectiveness.
