The University of Maryland Eastern Shore men’s volleyball team lost 0-3 to the Daemen Wildcats on Mar. 27 in Amherst, New York. The match marked the Hawks’ first contest in two weeks and ended with set scores of 25-27, 15-25, and 23-25.
The outcome matters for both teams as it affects their standings within the Northeast Conference. The Hawks now hold a record of 12-8 overall and 2-3 in conference play, while Daemen improves to an overall record of 11-10 and a conference mark of 4-3.
In the opening set, Maryland Eastern Shore took an early lead with a series of points from blocks and service aces but saw Daemen rally back. Both teams traded points late into the set before Daemen closed it out at 27-25. The second set saw momentum shift quickly to the Wildcats, who opened with a strong lead that they maintained throughout for a decisive win at 25-15.
The third set was closely contested with both teams exchanging leads until midway through when Daemen built an advantage. Despite efforts by Maryland Eastern Shore—including multiple kills and defensive plays—the Wildcats secured the final set at 25-23.
Statistically, one player led the Hawks with nine kills along with two service aces, four digs, two assists, and two block assists. Another player contributed eight kills and led in service aces with four while also adding four digs and a blocked shot. The team’s setter recorded twenty-one assists alongside six digs and four kills during the match. Defensively, UMES liberos combined for eight digs over three sets played.
Although Maryland Eastern Shore registered more total attacks (86) than Daemen (77), their hitting percentage was lower at just over eight percent compared to nearly twenty-nine percent for their opponents.
Looking ahead, Maryland Eastern Shore will remain in Amherst for another matchup against Daemen scheduled for Saturday at 2 p.m.
