The Maryland Eastern Shore Hawks lost to the Fairleigh Dickinson University Knights 12-7 on April 4 at the Naimoli Family Baseball Complex. The defeat puts the Hawks at a season record of 5-22 overall and 4-10 in conference play, while the Knights improve to 18-9 overall and lead the series two games to none.
The game saw FDU take an early lead, scoring four runs in the first three innings. The Hawks narrowed the gap with an RBI groundout in the fourth inning and a two-run home run in the fifth, bringing them within one run. However, FDU responded with a four-run fifth inning to extend their advantage.
Gonzalez Perez hit his team-high sixth home run of the season for Maryland Eastern Shore, finishing 1-for-3 at bat. Brown contributed significantly by going 2-for-5 with a home run and three runs batted in. Brown now ranks second on the team with three home runs this season. Carson also had a multi-hit game for UMES, finishing with two hits and one RBI.
Despite scoring seven runs on ten hits and committing one error, UMES could not overcome FDU’s offense, which produced twelve runs on fourteen hits and one error. The Knights’ closer entered during the seventh inning and secured the final seven outs of the game.
