The University of Maryland Eastern Shore softball team lost both games of a doubleheader against Morgan State on March 29, concluding their three-game Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference series with defeats of 9–1 and 7–2.

The outcome leaves the Hawks with a conference record of 1–8. The results matter for UMES as they continue to seek wins in the MEAC standings.

In Game One, Morgan State scored four runs across the first two innings. The Hawks managed their only run in the third inning after Clark led off with a single and later scored on a sacrifice fly, cutting the deficit to 4–1. Despite loading the bases in the fifth inning, UMES was unable to add more runs and ultimately fell by an eight-run margin.

Game Two saw UMES take an early lead when Gunther opened with a bunt single followed by Lacey’s walk. After another walk and single loaded the bases, Pinder hit a two-RBI single through right field for a brief 2–0 advantage. However, Morgan State responded quickly with two runs in their half of the second inning and pulled away during a four-run fifth frame.

Individually, Sturdivant struck out three batters over multiple appearances on Sunday while Pinder recorded her first multi-RBI game this season. Clark collected her eighth RBI via sacrifice fly in Game One, and Gunther reached her sixth multi-hit game for a total of 25 hits so far this year.

UMES will next face George Mason University in Fairfax, Virginia on Wednesday at 3 p.m.
