The Maryland Eastern Shore Hawks lost to the Mercyhurst Lakers, 14-1, in a baseball game played on April 19 at Hawk Stadium.
The result marks a series sweep for the Lakers, who won all three games against the Hawks. The game began with Mercyhurst scoring seven runs in the first inning during windy and rainy conditions in Princess Anne. They added another run in the second inning to take an early 8-0 lead.
The Hawks managed their first hit of the game and scored a run on an RBI double in the bottom of the fourth inning, making it 8-1. However, Mercyhurst continued to build their advantage by adding one run each in both the fifth and sixth innings before closing out with four more runs in the seventh.
In total, Maryland Eastern Shore finished with one run on two hits and committed one error. The Lakers tallied 14 runs on 14 hits without any errors. Five out of UMES’ six runs during this series came from RBI doubles. Caldwell led UMES hitters over the weekend by going 5-for-9 with two doubles across three games. Aponte contributed by finishing 1-for-2 at bat with an RBI, while Morales led UMES pitchers by striking out two batters over four innings.
