Maryland Eastern Shore Hawks lose series opener to FDU Knights 7-3

The Maryland Eastern Shore Hawks lost to the Fairleigh Dickinson University Knights by a score of 7-3 on April 2 at the Naimoli Family Baseball Complex.

The loss puts the Hawks at a season record of 5-20 overall and 4-9 in conference play, while the Knights improve to 17-9 overall and lead the series one game to none.

After two scoreless innings, FDU took control with three runs in the bottom of the third inning. The Hawks responded in the sixth with an RBI single that put them on the scoreboard. However, FDU widened their lead in the seventh inning by scoring four more runs, making it a 7-1 game. Despite a late push from Maryland Eastern Shore with a two-RBI single in the ninth inning, FDU secured their victory as they closed out the final frame.

Statistically, Maryland Eastern Shore recorded three runs on five hits and committed one error. The Knights had seven runs on eight hits and also made one error. One Hawk player finished with two hits in four at-bats and drove in two runs—his ninth multi-hit performance this season over twenty-four games played. Another pitcher for Maryland Eastern Shore threw five innings, struck out two batters, and allowed three earned runs. A different reliever contributed a scoreless ninth inning out of the bullpen.
