The University of Maryland Eastern Shore softball team lost both games in a doubleheader against Delaware State on April 25. The Hawks were defeated 11–0 in the first game, which ended after five innings, and fell short in the second game with a score of 4–3.
The results are significant as they affect the Hawks’ standings late in their season and set up their final matchup against Delaware State. In Game 1, the Hawks managed only two hits and left five runners on base despite having opportunities to score. The Hornets took control early by scoring three runs in the first inning and continued to add pressure throughout the game.
In Game 2, Maryland Eastern Shore kept it close until the end. The team rallied with two runs in the seventh inning but ultimately could not overcome Delaware State’s lead. The Hawks finished with five hits and had runners on first and third base when the final out was recorded. Both games featured complete-game pitching performances from members of each team.
Several players contributed key moments for Maryland Eastern Shore during both games, including singles from pinch hitters and notable defensive plays. Individual achievements included one player recording her fifth complete game of the season and another stealing her tenth base this year.
Looking ahead, Maryland Eastern Shore will host Delaware State for their final regular-season contest. A Senior Day celebration is planned before first pitch at 11:30 a.m., with Game 3 available for viewing on YouTube through UMES Hawks Athletics.
