The University of Maryland Eastern Shore softball team won against South Carolina State 2–0 in the final game of their three-game series on April 12.
This victory is important for the Hawks as it marks only their second conference win this season and breaks a losing streak against South Carolina State. The result also gives head coach Aaron Robinson his second season with at least ten wins since he started leading the program in 2024.
The Hawks scored both runs in the third inning. A sacrifice fly brought home Manzo, and an RBI double increased the lead to two runs. The starting pitcher for UMES threw a complete game, pitching seven innings with four strikeouts and escaping a bases-loaded situation in the second inning by striking out two batters in a row.
South Carolina State was held scoreless throughout the game, managing just one hit in the seventh inning before UMES closed out with a groundout and two flyouts. The shutout is only the second of the season for Maryland Eastern Shore.
The team’s next game will be against George Washington University on Wednesday, April 15 at 1 p.m. in Washington, D.C.
