The University of Maryland Eastern Shore men’s golf team finished in tenth place at the Irish Creek Intercollegiate, according to an April 7 announcement. Max Osten led the Hawks with a top twenty finish during the tournament, which took place at The Club at Irish Creek in Kannapolis, North Carolina.
This result comes as the team prepares for the upcoming Northeast Conference Championships later this month. The event provided an opportunity for players to fine-tune their performance ahead of a key part of their season.
Osten, a sophomore from Vancouver, Canada, started strong by shooting an even par-71 in the first round and closed out with a 2-under 69 after birdieing three of his final four holes. He finished tied for 19th and was one of only twelve players in the field to break 70 during any round. Other contributors included Jeter Teng (sophomore), who shot rounds of 77, 72, and finished with a 75 for a tie at 39th place; Jaden Hanson (freshman) recorded scores of 77 and then improved to a second-round score of 74 before ending with a final round of 78; Andreas Roman (freshman) ended his tournament with two rounds of 75 and placed tied for 67th; Marcos Ramirez (freshman) scored consistently before finishing with an opening round score of 77 but closed out with an overall tie for the sixty-ninth spot.
The Hawks posted team scores of 302 in the first round, improved to a total score of 296 after two rounds, and concluded with a final-round team score of 297. Their combined three-round stroke count was recorded as an overall total of eight hundred ninety-five strokes.
Looking ahead, Maryland Eastern Shore will compete next at the Northeast Conference Championships scheduled from April twenty-fourth through April twenty-sixth at Turf Valley Resort in Ellicott City.
