The University of Maryland Eastern Shore men’s golf team finished in a tie for fifth place at the Northeast Conference Championships, according to an April 27 announcement. This marks the best finish for the Hawks since joining the conference.
The result is significant as it demonstrates progress for the program, which competed against eleven other teams in this year’s event. The Hawks posted team scores of 295, 302, and 297 over three days. Their final round score of 297 allowed them to move from ninth to fifth place in the standings.
Freshman Marcos Ramirez led Maryland Eastern Shore during the tournament. Playing from the fifth position in the lineup, Ramirez briefly led after an opening round even-par 71 and went on to record rounds of 77 and 72, finishing with a total score of 220 and tying for fourteenth place. Sophomore Jeter Teng tied for twenty-seventh with rounds of 74 and two consecutive scores of 75. Max Osten rebounded from an opening round of 79 by shooting a pair of improved rounds (75 and then a low round of 72), sharing thirty-third place overall with a total score of 226. Andreas Roman matched Ramirez’s first-round score but finished thirty-sixth after subsequent rounds. Freshman Jaden Hanson ended his tournament in forty-seventh place.
Howard University won this year’s team championship with a combined total score of 861, while Long Island’s Arjun Singh Bhatia claimed individual honors by finishing five-under par at a total stroke count of 208.
