The University of Maryland Eastern Shore women’s golf team finished in eleventh place out of fifteen teams at the William & Mary Tribe Invitational, according to a statement released on March 25.
The result reflects the team’s efforts as they competed against a strong field over two days at Kingsmill Resort’s River Course in Williamsburg, Virginia. The tournament took place from March 23 to March 24 and included four freshmen and two sophomores representing the Hawks.
A freshman from Pakistan led the team, recording an even par 72 in the first round—the lowest round for UMES during the week. She followed with rounds of 84 and 83 for a total score of 239. Another freshman opened with an 80 and finished with scores of 86 in both subsequent rounds, totaling 252. One sophomore improved each day with scores of 91, then lowering her score to an 84 and finally an 81 for a combined total of 256. Other freshmen posted totals of 257 and another finished at a total score of 259 after three rounds. Sophomore Syndey Raines played as an individual, posting rounds that added up to a total score of 269.
As a group, UMES recorded team scores of 318, then struggled slightly with higher numbers in subsequent rounds (341 and then improving slightly to finish with a third-round score of 335). Their combined effort resulted in an overall team total score of 994 points.
Looking ahead, the Hawks are scheduled to compete next at the Prospect Bay Intercollegiate this Saturday and Sunday in Grasonville, Maryland.
