A Maryland man previously convicted of child sexual abuse has been sentenced to over 20 months in federal prison for illegally reentering the United States after deportation. U.S. District Judge James K. Bredar handed down the sentence to Alfredo Carreon-Lopez, 39, of Rosedale, Maryland.

The sentencing was announced by Kelly O. Hayes, U.S. Attorney for the District of Maryland, and Acting Director Nikita Baker from U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE-ERO) – Baltimore Field Office.

According to court documents, Carreon-Lopez is a Mexican national who entered the United States at an unknown time and location. He pleaded guilty on August 25, 2021, in the Circuit Court for Baltimore City to sexually abusing a minor. Evidence during his federal sentencing showed that his conviction involved the sexual abuse of a six-year-old child.

Carreon-Lopez was deported to Mexico on October 5, 2021. Authorities later located him in Baltimore City on September 15, 2023; he did not have legal permission to return to the country.

U.S. Attorney Hayes commended ICE-ERO’s role in investigating the case and acknowledged Assistant U.S. Attorney Reema Sood for prosecuting it.
