Loyola University Maryland announced on April 30 that Luke Murphy and Max Watkinson have been selected for the Academic All-Patriot League Team in men’s lacrosse. The award recognizes student-athletes who have demonstrated strong performance both academically and athletically.
The recognition highlights the balance that student-athletes must maintain between their studies and their commitment to their sport. Earning a spot on the Academic All-Patriot League Team is considered a significant achievement within collegiate athletics.
Watkinson received this honor for the second consecutive year, making him only the fifth Loyola Greyhounds player to be recognized multiple times since Loyola joined the Patriot League in 2014. Over his last three seasons as goalkeeper, he has recorded at least ten saves in 27 out of his 32 starts. He currently ranks third in the conference for save percentage at .528 and averages 12.86 saves per game.
Murphy leads all Greyhounds midfielders with fifteen goals this season and was also named to the All-Patriot League Second Team earlier in the week. In addition to his goals, he has five assists this season, bringing his career totals at Loyola to thirty goals and fourteen assists.
Both players will join their teammates as they begin competition in the Patriot League Championships on Friday, May 1, facing Colgate University at Blaik Field at Michie Stadium in West Point, New York.
