Oriole Park at Camden Yards has become the first Major League Baseball stadium to accept Maryland Mobile Driver’s Licenses (mDL) and Mobile IDs for age verification, according to an announcement by the Maryland Department of Transportation Motor Vehicle Administration (MVA) and the Baltimore Orioles. This initiative allows fans with state-issued mDLs to verify their age quickly and securely when purchasing alcoholic beverages at 31 vendor stations throughout the stadium.

Mobile IDs are digital versions of state-issued driver’s licenses or identification cards stored on smartphones. Customers can confirm their age by tapping their mDL at checkout, which is designed to protect customer privacy. MVA Administrator Chrissy Nizer said, “The State of Maryland continues to be a national leader in prioritizing customer privacy and convenience,” adding that this partnership with the Baltimore Orioles demonstrates how Mobile Driver’s License technology can enhance the fan experience.

The use of mDL technology is expanding across Maryland, making it easier for residents to use digital IDs in daily life. Currently, Maryland Mobile ID is accepted at select TSA checkpoints nationwide, including Baltimore/Washington International Thurgood Marshall Airport (BWI), Washington Dulles International Airport (IAD), and Ronald Reagan Washington National Airport (DCA). It is also accepted at some BWI restaurants, Montgomery County Alcohol Beverage Services retail stores, self-service kiosks at MVA branch offices, and Merriweather Post Pavilion.

Maryland’s mDL complies with International Organization for Standardization (ISO) 18013-5 standards, ensuring privacy protections that prevent businesses from tracking its usage. Unlike physical IDs, only necessary information for age verification is shared with merchants. The Maryland Mobile ID is free and can be added to Apple Wallet, Google Wallet, or Samsung Wallet for residents with a valid Maryland driver’s license or state-issued ID.
