Rep. Glenn Ivey, U.S. Congressman representing Maryland’s 4th district since 2023, used his social media platform to address the impending government shutdown and its potential impact on essential services and community programs.
On September 30, 2025, Ivey posted, ” A potential government shutdown is just hours away as Congress remains deadlocked on funding. While essential services will continue, programs many rely on — like benefits, healthcare, and travel support — could face serious disruptions. Join me for a Government Shutdown https://t.co/FOf6kcN0V5″.
The following day, October 1, 2025, he reiterated his stance by stating, “The American people deserve a functioning goverment that works for them. I will continue to fight because the stakes for our communities and our country are simply too high. Read my statement below. https://t.co/1L9EwRmBZo”.
Later on October 1, Ivey announced an informational event: “As the government shutdown looms, I will continue to fight for #MD04 because our communities deserve better. This is why I am hosting a government shutdown webinar today at 5 p.m. to share information that impacts Marylanders. I will be joined by Ottis Johnson Jr., @AFGENational https://t.co/JYsPv7Reed”.
Glenn Ivey has served in Congress since 2023 after replacing Anthony Brown and previously held office in the Maryland House of Representatives. He was born in Chelsea, Massachusetts in 1961 and currently resides in Cheverly at age 62. Ivey graduated from Princeton University with a BA in 1983 and earned his JD from Harvard Law School in 1986.
