Rep. Glenn Ivey, who has represented Maryland’s 4th District in the U.S. Congress since 2023, recently addressed several issues through a series of posts on social media. Ivey, a Princeton and Harvard Law School graduate born in Chelsea, Massachusetts in 1961, used his platform to comment on economic policy, local commemorations, and changes to immigration status for Afghan nationals.
On July 11, 2025, Rep. Ivey criticized the ongoing impact of tariffs implemented during the Trump administration. He stated: “Trump’s tariffs are still draining American wallets—costing families an average of $2,300 per year. This trade chaos is driving up prices on essentials: groceries, gas, vehicles, and home goods. In my district, hardworking constituents are shouldering $1,000–$3,800 in extra”.
On July 14, 2025, Rep. Ivey shared his participation in a centennial event honoring World War I soldiers from Prince George’s County at the Peace Cross Memorial in Bladensburg. He wrote: “Over the weekend I joined @CouncilD5Ivey to gather at the historic Peace Cross Memorial alongside the American Legion in Bladensburg to celebrate 100 years of honoring the 49 soldiers from Prince George’s County who gave their lives in World War I. It was an honor to stand”.
Later that same day, Rep. Ivey commented on changes to Temporary Protected Status (TPS) for Afghans under the Trump administration. He said: “Effective today, the Trump Administration is terminating Temporary Protected Status for Afghanistan. Now, Afghans who served bravely alongside our service members for two decades will be sent back into harm’s way. This is unacceptable.”
Glenn Ivey replaced Anthony Brown as representative of Maryland’s 4th District in Congress beginning in 2023 and previously served in the Maryland House of Representatives. He currently resides in Cheverly.
