Rep. Glenn Ivey, U.S. Congressman representing Maryland’s 4th district since 2023, posted a series of updates on social media addressing historic milestones, local job opportunities for veterans, and economic pressures facing families as the school year begins.

On August 18, 2025, Ivey commemorated the anniversary of women’s suffrage in the United States. He wrote, “On August 18, 1920, the 19th Amendment was ratified, granting women the right to vote and marking a monumental step toward gender equality in the United States.

This historic achievement was the culmination of decades of tireless advocacy by suffragists and allies, who fought” (posted August 18, 2025).

Later that day, Ivey announced a paid position in his district office specifically for veterans or Gold Star Family members. In his post he stated: “My office is seeking a veteran or Gold Star Family member for a two-year paid position in our Landover district office.

To qualify, Veterans must be Honorably discharged, released from active duty within the last six years, pay grades at or below E-5, O-3, or W-2.” (posted August 18, 2025).

On August 19, Ivey highlighted rising costs affecting families as students return to school. He noted: “As students return to school, working families are feeling the pressure—not just from back-to-classroom costs but from rising household essentials

First-day school supplies will cost an average of 7.3% more this back-to-school season.
Families will pay nearly $163 more https://t.co/gtSnfJnPly” (posted August 19, 2025).

Glenn Ivey has served in Congress since replacing Anthony Brown in Maryland’s 4th District in early 2023. Before joining Congress he served in the Maryland House of Representatives. Born in Chelsea, Massachusetts in 1961 and currently residing in Cheverly at age 62, Ivey holds degrees from Princeton University and Harvard Law School.
