Rep. Glenn Ivey, U.S. Congressman representing Maryland’s 4th district since 2023, has publicly addressed the ongoing government shutdown in a series of posts on his social media account.

On October 2, 2025, Ivey posted: “As Day 2 of the government shutdown continues, I am continuing to fight for YOU. Yesterday, I was joined by Ottis Johnson, Jr., @afgenational and Rob Shriver, @DemocracyFwd for a webinar on the impacts of the government shutdown.

Later that day, he attributed responsibility for the shutdown to Republicans in Congress: “Republicans chose this shutdown—and it’s hurting families, workers, and small businesses. Their stranglehold on healthcare means higher costs and lost coverage for millions. Democrats are fighting to protect care and put people first.” This post emphasized his party’s commitment to healthcare protections during the impasse.

On October 3, 2025, Ivey reiterated his stance: “It’s time to reopen the government — now. Democrats are ready to lower health care costs and clean up the Republican mess that’s hurting working families.”

Glenn Ivey succeeded Anthony Brown as representative for Maryland’s 4th district in 2023 after previously serving in the Maryland House of Representatives. Born in Chelsea, Massachusetts in 1961 and currently residing in Cheverly at age 62, Ivey holds degrees from Princeton University (BA) and Harvard Law School (JD).

The current government shutdown has prompted statements from lawmakers across party lines regarding its effects on federal employees and services. In his recent communications, Rep. Ivey focused attention on economic impacts for working families and highlighted Democratic priorities around healthcare affordability.
