On April 14, 2025, at 16:26 UTC, Ivey remarked on the President and his cabinet’s responsibility regarding Kilmar Abrego Garcia’s deportation. He stated, “I’m astonished that the President and his cabinet refuse to take accountability for what happened to Kilmar Abrego Garcia…”. Ivey criticized the administration’s decision to deport Garcia despite a judge granting him protected status.

Later that day, Ivey expressed his satisfaction at participating in a summit focused on reducing gun violence. He emphasized the Trump administration’s need to comply with legal orders concerning Garcia, stating, “The Trump administration must comply with the Supreme Court’s order and return Mr. Abrego Garcia to the United States.”
