U.S. Representative Glenn Ivey, who serves Maryland’s 4th district, used a series of posts on August 14, 2025, to highlight the importance of Social Security and criticize Republican policies affecting the program.

In his first post, Ivey emphasized the number of Social Security recipients in his district and reaffirmed Democratic efforts to safeguard these benefits: “There are 101,246 #SocialSecurity recipients in #MD04!

90 years after FDR signed Social Security into law, @HouseDemocrats are working to protect your hard-earned benefits for years to come. (1/3) https://t.co/XcgbaqpGKG” (posted August 14, 2025).

Continuing his thread, Ivey accused Republicans of undermining the Social Security system since Donald Trump assumed office: “Since Trump took office, Republicans have decimated the Social Security workforce and slashed services for our seniors. That’s all part of their back-door plan to privatize Social Security. Democrats have a plan to strengthen Social Security and enhance your benefits. (2/3)” (posted August 14, 2025).

He concluded by referencing comments from Trump’s Treasury Secretary regarding Republican budget proposals: “Trump’s own Treasury Secretary admitted the Republican budget contains ‘a backdoor to privatizing Social Security.’ This cannot stand. I’m committed to protecting your hard-earned benefits, not turning them over to Wall Street to pad the pockets of the ultra-wealthy. (3/3)” (posted August 14, 2025).

Ivey has represented Maryland’s 4th District in Congress since replacing Anthony Brown in 2023. He previously served in the Maryland House of Representatives and holds degrees from Princeton University and Harvard Law School. Born in Chelsea, Massachusetts in 1961, he currently resides in Cheverly.
