Representative Glenn Ivey, a member of the U.S. Congress for Maryland’s 4th district, has voiced concerns on social media regarding President Trump’s recent actions related to law enforcement in Washington, D.C.

On August 11, 2025, Ivey questioned the president’s response to unrest and law enforcement deployment, writing: “President Trump stood by during the Jan. 6 riots, and now that a former staffer is assaulted, he scrambles to deploy the National Guard and tries to federalize local police? The following day, Ivey shared his appearance on MSNBC with Ana Cabrera and reiterated his stance: “Earlier, I joined @MSNBC’s @AnaCabrera to share my serious concerns about President Trump’s federal takeover of D.C. law enforcement. Bottom line: It’s time to stop the political games and give these agencies the resources they actually need.(1/2) https://t.co/EGt8bGu6fH” On August 12, he also encouraged followers to view his full comments via video: “My full answer? Ivey’s remarks come amid heightened debate over federal involvement in local policing after an assault on a former White House staffer prompted new security measures in the capital.

A Democrat who began representing Maryland’s 4th District in Congress in 2023 after serving in the Maryland House of Representatives, Ivey succeeded Anthony Brown. He was born in Chelsea, Massachusetts in 1961 and currently resides in Cheverly. Ivey holds degrees from Princeton University (BA) and Harvard Law School (JD).
