Rep. Glenn Ivey, who represents Maryland’s 4th district in the U.S. Congress, has raised concerns about food insecurity during the ongoing federal government shutdown through a series of posts on his social media account.
On November 3, 2025, Ivey posted: “Food insecurity during this federal government shutdown is a real and growing crisis in our community. I visited Mission of Love Food Pantry alongside @joleneivey to witness firsthand how their demand is affected by furloughed federal workers & households uncertain about SNAP”.
The following day, he addressed confusion regarding food assistance for families in November, stating: “There is a lot of confusion right now around whether families will receive their food assistance in November. If you need support, call 2-1-1 or the Capital Area Food Bank’s Hunger Lifeline: (202) 644-9807.”
Later that same day, Ivey criticized former President Trump’s actions regarding hunger relief efforts: “President Trump is clearly defying the court’s order and continues to play politics with hunger. Which Americans don’t deserve to have food on their table?”
Glenn Ivey has served as the representative for Maryland’s 4th District since 2023 after succeeding Anthony Brown. Before joining Congress, he was a member of the Maryland House of Representatives. Born in Chelsea, Massachusetts in 1961 and currently residing in Cheverly, Ivey holds degrees from Princeton University and Harvard Law School.
