Coppin State University’s baseball team lost 6-2 to Mount St. Mary’s on April 28, giving up a two-run lead during the game. The Eagles now have an overall record of 8-30, while Mount St. Mary’s improved to 19-22.

The game was notable for Justin Ritz, who made his school-record 59th relief appearance for Coppin State and has now appeared in 60 games over three seasons, tying him for fourth all-time in school history.

Emilio Feliciano hit his first home run of the season for Coppin State, providing an early lead in the first inning. Jordan Treadwell and Nelson Grajales contributed the only other hits for the Eagles during the game, while Angel Garcia drew two walks.

Pitcher Abel Ortiz allowed just one earned run on one hit through three innings before Jackson Montgomery gave up two runs over the next nearly two innings. Luke Corcoran surrendered another earned run across just over an inning pitched, and Jake Cumming gave up a run in his single inning of work.

After taking a 2-0 lead by scoring again in the third inning on a wild pitch with bases loaded, Coppin State was unable to maintain momentum as Mount St. Mary’s tied it up later that inning and took control with additional runs in subsequent frames. The Eagles did not score again after their early success.

Coppin State is scheduled to host New Haven for a three-game Northeast Conference series from May 1 to May 3 at Joe Cannon Stadium.
