Athletes from the University of Maryland Eastern Shore recorded strong performances at the Norfolk State University Invitational, held on April 4 at William “Dick” Price Stadium.
The meet featured standout results for both the men’s and women’s teams, with several personal bests and a new school record set. These achievements highlight the ongoing progress of the program as it continues its outdoor track season.
For the women’s team, a junior secured her second consecutive victory in the high jump with a mark of 1.65 meters. A senior took first place in the triple jump with a distance of 12.21 meters. Additional notable performances included fifth place in the women’s 400-meter race with a time of 58.42 seconds, Shennell Simms finishing eighth in that event while setting a personal best at 58.69 seconds, an eighth-place finish in the women’s 800 meters (2:23.52), fifth place in high jump (1.45 meters), eighth place in shot put (10.79 meters, personal best), and seventh place in hammer throw (33.57 meters, personal best).
On the men’s side, junior Andie Kollie broke a school record by running 10.39 seconds to take second place in the men’s 100-meter dash. Other top finishes included Tyrese Golston placing sixth in the men’s 200 meters (21.22 seconds), Destiny Emuze finishing second and Daniel Barton third—setting his own personal best—in the men’s 800 meters (1:54.65 and 1:56.29 respectively). Jalen Ridgeway was seventh in that event (1:57.86). Akeil Kidd set a personal best while placing seventh in the men’s 400-meter hurdles (56.38 seconds). Kareem Kamandego finished third in pole vault (3.94 meters) while Jonylson Prucien took fourth place with his triple jump performance of 13.28 meters.
The Hawks are scheduled to compete next at Howard University Bison Classic on Saturday.
These results reflect steady improvement among Maryland Eastern Shore athletes as they prepare for upcoming competitions this spring.
