Saher S. Sabri, MD, FSIR, chief of interventional radiology for MedStar Health and professor of radiology at Georgetown’s School of Medicine, assumed the role of president of the Society of Interventional Radiology on April 14 for a one-year term.
The appointment is significant as it places Sabri at the helm of an organization that represents interventional radiologists and their interests in advancing patient care within the healthcare system.
“As I step into the role of president, I look forward to continuing strong advocacy for interventional radiologists and ensuring our members are recognized for the value they provide to the healthcare system and improving patient access to high-quality care,” Sabri said in a statement released by SIR.
Sabri specializes in minimally invasive, image-guided therapies addressing conditions such as peripheral vascular disease, aortic aneurysms, portal hypertension, uterine fibroids, prostate hypertrophy, musculoskeletal pain management and local or regional therapy for cancers affecting the liver, kidney or lung. He emphasizes individualized treatment plans tailored to each patient’s diagnosis and goals.
“I spend as much time as possible with my patients in order to present them with options that are most relevant to their specific diagnosis and treatment goals,” Sabri said. “Providing patient-centered care means that I am available to my patients before, during and after the procedure.”
Sabri graduated from the University of Jordan Faculty of Medicine before completing his residency in diagnostic radiology at the University of Iowa and fellowship training in vascular and interventional radiology at the University of Virginia. He is a fellow of SIR, holds board certification from the American Board of Radiology in vascular and interventional radiology, serves as a board examiner for that organization, has published widely and lectures both nationally and internationally.
