St. Mary’s County Sheriff’s Office investigates fatal pedestrian crash and seeks witnesses

The St. Mary’s County Sheriff’s Office announced on April 10 that it is investigating a fatal crash involving a pedestrian in California, Maryland. Deputies responded at 2:26 a.m. to the southbound lane of the 22700 block of Three Notch Road, where Jesse San Nicolas, age 40 and a resident of California, Maryland, was pronounced dead at the scene.

The incident occurred as San Nicolas was attempting to cross the southbound lanes when he was struck by more than one vehicle. Authorities said that a BMW sedan driven by a 21-year-old man from Waldorf remained at the scene after being involved in the collision. However, another vehicle believed to be a dark blue or black Dodge Caravan from model years 2011-2020 left the area without stopping and may have front bumper damage.

The Collision Reconstruction team has taken over the investigation and is asking for public assistance. “If you were traveling in the area and witnessed anything, or if you have seen a 2011-2020 Dodge Caravan with front-end damage, please contact Sergeant Shawn Shelko at Shawn.Shelko@stmaryscountymd.gov or 301-475-4200, extension 8147,” said officials from the Sheriff’s Office.

Anonymous tips can also be submitted through text message by starting with “SMCSO”, online via www.FirstSheriff.com/tips, through the SMCSO app available on Google Play Store or Apple App Store, or by calling Crime Solvers at 301-475-3333. Tipsters may be eligible for cash rewards if their information leads to an arrest.
