Steny Hoyer, U.S. Congressman representing Maryland’s 5th district since 1981, addressed a range of issues in recent posts on his official social media account.

On November 18, 2025, Hoyer expressed concern over a local disaster, stating: “I’m deeply saddened by the devastation caused by a fire in Chesapeake Beach that has displaced over two dozen Marylanders. I thank our first responders and state & local leaders who are working to support those impacted by the fire. My prayers are with the Calvert County”.

Later that evening, Hoyer commented on efforts to seek justice for survivors of Jeffrey Epstein’s crimes: “Republican leadership made many attempts to quash our efforts, but the survivors of Epstein’s sex crimes deserve justice & the public deserves the truth. I am deeply moved by the strength of the survivors, & I will continue to stand with them as we call on the Admin to release” (November 19, 2025).

On November 19, he also issued a statement regarding former President Trump’s comments about Jamal Khashoggi: “My full statement in response to Trump’s comments on the murder of Washington Post columnist Jamal Khashoggi:”.

Hoyer has represented Maryland’s 5th District in Congress since replacing Gladys Spellman in 1981 and previously served in both chambers of Maryland’s state legislature. Born in New York City in 1939 and currently residing in Mechanicsville, Hoyer holds degrees from the University of Maryland and Georgetown University Law Center.
