Steny Hoyer, U.S. Congressman representing Maryland’s 5th district since 1981, has recently shared updates on his social media regarding environmental policy, education investments, and legislative actions in Congress.

On September 18, 2025, Hoyer addressed the issue of climate change and public health in a post stating, “The science is clear: carbon pollution endangers the health & welfare of Marylanders and Americans across the country. Team Maryland will keep working to ensure @EPA continues to uphold scientific consensus & combat the impact of climate change in our communities.”

Later that day, he highlighted educational initiatives by acknowledging efforts in Los Angeles. He wrote on September 18, 2025: “It is always great to see my dear friend Melanie Lundquist & the @PartnershipLASchools team, whose investments in public schools have supported over 13,500 students across Los Angeles. Their work is an example for all of us: when we invest in our teachers, students, and”

On September 19, 2025, Hoyer commented on recent congressional activity related to government funding and healthcare. He stated: “House Republicans may have successfully jammed through their partisan funding bill today, but they failed to challenge Trump’s cuts, lower costs, & protect health care. Democrats will continue working to ensure the government functions for all Americans.”

Hoyer’s posts reflect ongoing concerns about environmental policy enforcement by the EPA and continued advocacy for federal support of education and healthcare programs. Having served continuously in Congress since replacing Gladys Spellman in 1981 and with prior experience in both chambers of Maryland’s state legislature from 1967 to 1975, Hoyer draws on decades of legislative service ([source](https://bioguide.congress.gov/search/bio/H000874)). Born in New York City in 1939 and currently residing in Mechanicsville at age 83, he holds degrees from the University of Maryland and Georgetown University Law Center.
