Steny Hoyer, U.S. Congressman representing Maryland’s 5th district since 1981, has recently addressed several political issues on his social media account, including election integrity, public transportation, and federal funding.
On March 26, 2026, Hoyer criticized former President Trump and the Save America Act in a post stating: “Trump knows that voting by mail is a safe and secure way to cast your ballot. His MAGA majority’s efforts to disenfranchise eligible Americans with the Save America Act are shameful and nothing short of hypocritical. We must protect the integrity of our elections and ensure”.
The following day, March 27, Hoyer commented on delays related to Department of Homeland Security (DHS) funding legislation: “Republicans continue to hold off on Ranking Member @rosadelauro’s DHS funding bill as a tactic to undermine ICE’s lawlessness. They do so to the detriment of federal workers and the Americans they serve. I urge my colleagues on both sides of the aisle to sign our discharge”.
Later that same day, he recognized a milestone for regional public transportation: “Today we celebrate 50 years of WMATA providing safe and reliable public transportation for the National Capital Region. I’ve been proud to partner with @WMATA throughout my career to keep our communities and economy moving forward. I will continue to support and work to invest https://t.co/KmmPXkaOvS”.
Hoyer has had a long career in Congress after replacing Gladys Spellman in 1981. Before his tenure in Congress, he served in both the Maryland House of Representatives and State Senate from 1967 to 1975. Born in New York City in 1939, Hoyer currently resides in Mechanicsville. He holds degrees from the University of Maryland, College Park (BA), and Georgetown University Law Center (JD).
