Steny Hoyer, a longstanding member of the U.S. Congress representing Maryland’s 5th district, has recently shared his thoughts on several significant issues via social media. Hoyer, who has been in office since 1981, used his platform to address topics including political challenges and personal condolences.

On March 5, 2025, Hoyer announced his guest for former President Donald Trump’s Joint Address as Dr. Everett Kelley, President of the American Federation of Government Employees (AFGE). “My guest for Trump’s Joint Address is @AFGEPresident Dr. Everett Kelley, who represents 800,000 of the federal workers who are under attack from Elon Musk and Trump. President Kelley and I will continue leading the charge to counter the Trump Administration’s unprecedented,…” wrote Hoyer.

Later that day, Hoyer expressed criticism towards Donald Trump’s economic policies following a public address by the former president. He stated on March 5, 2025: “Tonight, rather than honor his promises to lower inflation and create jobs, Donald Trump doubled down on economic policies that will devastate American workers, families, and small businesses. The state of our Union and our economy grows weaker every day that Trump continues on…”

In a more somber note on March 5, 2025, Hoyer conveyed his condolences over the death of Rep. Sylvester Turner. He remarked: “I am saddened to hear of the passing of Rep. Sylvester Turner. His commitment to serving the people of Houston will be remembered by many, and his passing is a tremendous loss for the entire state of Texas. My prayers are with his loved ones and the TX-18 community at this time.…”
